FIRST INFORMATION LETTER

Dear Colleagues,

The Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry is planning to hold an international scientific conference dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the institute. The conference “Genetic Resources as the Foundation of Food Security of Quality of Life” will be held in St Petersburg on 6th – 8th October, 2014. You are hereby invited to attend this event.

The conference will cover the following topics:

$11.      History of VIR: Names of Renown.

$12.      Collecting and Conservation of Plant Genetic Diversity: Possibilities and Prospects.

$13.      Identifying Genetic Diversity of Cultivated Plants and Their Wild Relatives to Resolve Fundamental and Practical Problems.

$14.      Collections of Worldwide Crop Genetic Resources in the Development of Priority Breeding Trends.

Oral presentations will be plenary and sectional. A poster session will be envisaged as well. Those who are going to attend are expected to send their registration forms by 1st May 2014 to  n.loskutova@vir.nw.ru

Dear Colleagues,

A renowned evolutionist and taxonomist, geneticist and breeder, ecologist, geographer and crop expert, Evgenia N. Sinskaya (1889_1965) is rightfully regarded as one of the most prominent Russian biologists whose works and research achievements are well known in the world’s botanical community. She pioneered many areas of plant science, and her contribution has not lost its scientific value and importance up to now.

The Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry is going to commemorate the 125th birthday of Prof. E.N. Sinskaya by hosting the II International Scientific Conference “Problems of Crop Evolution and Systematics”. The conference will be held in St Petersburg on 9th – 10th October, 2014. You are hereby invited to attend this event.

The conference will cover the following topics:

•         Systematics of cultivated plants and their wild relatives;
•         Evolution and origin of cultivated plants;
•         Issues of ecology and geography of cultivated plants, crop wild relatives and weedy plants;
•         Problems of plant genetic resources conservation;
•         Populational variability of cultivated plants and their wild relatives.
